Ask the Expert: Bob Bailey with BMC Software

Teaching has always been in my DNA. I have been teaching for more than 20 years. About 10 of those years have been at BMC, 5 years were at HP and 5 years were in higher education.

How has training delivery changed since you’ve been an instructor?

When I first started teaching, there was no online training. I was always in the classroom, face-to-face with students. BMC moved to online training around 2009-2010. Now we teach more than 90% of our classes online. I rarely teach face-to-face anymore.

“The move to online has significantly cut costs. We pay less to teach virtually—and can get more customers because virtual delivery has become extremely popular.”

Which tools/features do you use the most?

ReadyTech has excellent tech support and resolves issues quickly. The support team is knowledgeable and reliable. That goes a long way when you are an instructor.

What’s your favorite tool/feature?

Inactivity Monitor allows me to see when students are actively working or inactive within the lab. This lets me know when I can move on with content—or I need to go in and help individual students catch up.

What advice would you give to a new instructor, just starting with ReadyTech’s solutions

Become familiar with the benefits of LabManager. When I was a new instructor, I was unaware of all the benefits and tools that ReadyTech offers. There are many options available that I never knew existed. Now I constantly use these tools—especially the inactivity monitor and live demo.

Also take advantage of the excellent tech support. And don’t forget that it’s available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year! Learn more about ReadyTech’s 24/7 Support Services.
